Dr. David Hatmaker was born in Tennessee, but lived in Florida for approximately 35 years until moving to the Carolinas He practices now in Charlotte, NC. He has been married for 35 years to Gail, his wife and has two adult children. He is a devoted Christian, and has been a Bible Study teacher for many years. He regularly attends a local church. David has also previously worked on church staff for 12 years, prior to making this career move to professional counseling.
Dr. Hatmaker has a B.A. Degree from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee and an M. Degree from Southwestern Seminary in Texas. He also has earned a Doctorate Degree in Counseling from Gulf Shore Graduate School, and has completed additional post-graduate studies at Southwestern Seminary, the University of South Florida, Liberty University and the University of Central Florida. He is a licensed counselor with the state of Florida and licensed professional counselor supervisor in North Carolina. In addition to these credentials, he is also an ordained minister who incorporates Biblical principles into the therapeutic process.
Dr. Hatmaker has been practicing for approximately 30 years and has worked in three psychiatric hospitals. He has also worked in community mental health clinics, private counseling centers, and taught in colleges. Dr. Hatmaker has hosted a call-in radio talk show and has led conferences and retreats in several places throughout the US and Europe, and South America. He has worked with many professional organizations including business alliances, civic groups, churches, denominations and schools, leading conferences and workshops. He is a licensed Mental Health Counselor, FL, LPCS in NC, and board certified by The National Board of Certified Counselors and the American Psychological Practitioners Association, and ACS. He has been a member of the Christian Association of Psychological Studies, the American Association for Counseling and Development and the American Association For Christian Counselors - AACC.
Besides helping numerous individuals in psychotherapy, pre-marital and marriage and family counseling, he coaches executives and other adults, providing evaluations as well as personalized treatment plans and follow-up teaching skills and therapy needed for success. He was a certified supervisor for interns and associates in Florida for many years. He is currently a licensed professional counselor supervisor for NC, where he is supervising LPCA's. He is on several national referral networks of some of the most popular family organizations in the country.
